Here’s a New Post on How to Crate Train a Dog
From an early age, crate training affects the well being and sense of safety of any dog. It touches on the primal need for a den, where the primordial dog slept, raised it’s young, and emerged as the dogs we know now.
Punishing a dog really worsens the training. They are pack animals and want to cooperate. Lots of myths about dog training abound. Let’s dispel a few:
How to Crate Train a Dog and Myths about Dog and Puppy Training:
A leader of the Pack is calm, quiet, consistent. You win nothing to beat him senseless. Your dog will only feel afraid of you and can become an aggression towards you.
Learning the right way on how to crate train a dog is a great way to show the dog where he or she can rest, and retire when not out with master, or not needed (yes, dogs need to be needed! they have a purpose in any household) they can go rest.
As part of learning how to crate train a dog, you’ll be asked to put a cover over the crate. Putting a cover over the cage is not inhumane at all, but takes away any sense of visual stimulation, bad or good and the dog can rest. I see that in kennels and neighbors houses and used to think it was awful-let alone the crate being awful-but now I understand.
The crate is so natural, and I’m astounded everyone doesn’t use one. And they make traveling with the dog easier too. Crates are available from lots of online retailers and the local pet store, but don’t be afraid to make one DIY with some wood, chicken wire and other materials.
Remember, it can be a nice looking piece of furniture too! I’ve seen some dog crates in colleagues offices that look like part of the decor. But I know that I like having my dog in the office with me, but he likes a dark place to sleep too. Learning how to crate train a dog or puppy has huge benefits and follows the natural instincts they have.
How to Crate Train a Dog and Myths about Dog and Puppy Training:
- You need a choke collar to teach your dog to walk with the loose leash. This is so stupid. These collars cut the air supply to your pet completely and it can make you a lot of damage.
- Shock collars stop barking. That makes me very angry. It is so easy to stop the habit of barking without having to resort to methods as inhumane as electric shock.
- Worse! Shock Collars also can damage to the immune system, which is a little known but important fact.
- Beating never works, like humans, NEVER works. It’s humiliating, and same for humans and dogs. Humiliate doesn’t teach, it HUMILIATES.
- These brutal training methods are not only completely unnecessary but also do not work. A good alternative is to learn how to crate train a dog.
